AOSA, SEA LETTUCE  Ulva spp.

Description: Plant

Bright green, thin crinkly sheets; heart or oval shaped; feels like wax paper.

 

Habitat:

Found in quiet water near upper tide, or free floating.

 

Uses:

High content of niacin, Bl2, calcium and protein. Used medicinally as an astringent, and against gout and scrofula. Used  fresh, dried and powdered as seasoning.

 

Special Harvest or Processing Comments:

Collect from beaches, wash briefly, removing sand, picking off invertebrates and sun dry.
