CLOUDBERRIES Rubus chamaemorus

Description: Plant

Text Box: Grows low to the ground; rounded leaves, toothed, leathery; bears only one white flower and single fruit which turns from red to yellow as it ripens.

Habitat:

Moist areas of peat or tundra.

Uses:

Cloudberries are a special treat, and usually not found in great quantities. They are sometimes called salmonberries. The young shoots will produce a gray to black dye. Scandinavians market cloudberries commercially as preserves, bottled whole in syrup or water, or as a liqueur.

Special Harvest or Processing Comments:

Cloudberries spoil easily and quickly - they must be processed immediately.
