TAMARACK Larix laricinaDescription:
Plant
Habitat: Throughout Alaska,
from mountainous areas to tundra, in well-drained soil. Uses: Tamarack
leaves make a pleasant, pungent scented tea, which may be mixed with store
bought tea. The bark tea is a laxative, diuretic and is said to be good
for bleeding problems, hemorrhoids, excess menstruation, and as a
liver/spleen tonic. Special
Harvest or Processing Comments: Tamarack makes
good lumber, and gathering needles and bark as a lumbering by-product
would be sensible. Otherwise, harvesting would be accomplished by
clipping branch ends, to allow for re-growth. |
